Agricultural Economics
Did you know… they do commodity marketing? The department has two majors: Environmental Economics and Agricultural Business. We help with prepare our students for policy and risk management. The student enrollment average over past 5 year is 105, this is an awesome student: teacher ratio!
Human Development and Family Studies
Did you know…We have to work at least 100 volunteer hours a semester for some classes? The Student Enrollment Average over past 5 years is 213. We have three options for concentrations: child life, youth studies, and family studies. Before graduation we prepare an internship binder that is over 200 pages in length.
Apparel Textiles and Merchandising
Did you know… There are 15 Sewing Machines & 6 Sergers in our sewing lab? You can earn school credit by spending a summer in London. Graduates in our program have worked for people such as: Vera Wang, Vogue, and Nordstrom. There are two concentrations for ATM majors, Design or Merchandising. Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion
Did you know…The Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion have an average of 156 students over the past five years? It is the only department in the nation to include Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion .There are eight student organizations such as Food Science Club, Muscle Foods Association, Student Dietetic Association, Beef Team, Culinology Team, Dairy Judging Team, Meat Judging Team, and Pre-Vet Club.
Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, and Plant Pathology
Did you know… The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, and Plant Pathology has had average of 144 over the past 5 years? Many undergraduate concentrations in Biochemistry include Pre-medicine, Pre-dental, Pre-optometry, Pre-pharmacy, Pre-veterinary, Forensics and Bioinformatics. It is known as the Pre-Profession of Sciences. The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, and Plant Pathology offer a wide range of concentrations and opportunities for undergraduates and graduates.
Poultry Science
Did you know…The Department of Poultry Science has had average of 40 students enrolled over the past five years? The Department of Poultry Science is 1 of 6 in the Nation. Mississippi’s largest commodity, which has provided 100% placement of our graduates since the first Poultry Science degree was awarded in 1948. The Department of Poultry Science has never turned away a student that meets scholarship criteria. There is also a 100% job placement.
Agriculture and Biological Engineering
Did you know…The Department of Agriculture and Biological Engineering has an average of 303 students per year? The department has two concentrations, a B.S. in Biological Engineering and B.S. in Agriculture Engineering Technology and Business. There are only 2 girls in the entire AETB major, one of which is a CALS Ambassador! Employment with this department can range from aquaculture to cotton ginning to banking!
Animal and Dairy Science
Did you know…Animal and Dairy Science has an average of 240 students per year over the past 5 years, the majority being female? Career opportunities include production, agribusiness, government employment, and professional degrees. Many ADS majors apply to MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, which ranks third in the nation currently as a veterinary school. There are 8 clubs and teams within the ADS concentration, including Dairy Science Club, Block and Bridle, Pre-Vet Club, Horseman’s Association, Collegiate Cattleman’s Club, Horse Judging Team, Rodeo Club, and Rodeo Team.
Plant and Soil Sciences
Did you know… There are six majors available to students wanting to pursue a career in Plant and Soil Sciences? This department is one of the few in the United States that offers Floral Management. Their mission is to provide leadership in teaching, research, and extension within Mississippi as well as regionally and nationally. The Student Enrollment Average over the past five years is 120.
Agricultural Information Science
Did you know… AIS offers students two concentrations? Students may choose between the Teaching concentration and the Leadership concentration. The Teaching concentration prepares students to become future Agriscience instructors, while the Leadership concentration is aimed at students who plan on serving in Extension. This department is home of MSU’s Collegiate FFA Chapter. AIS produces leaders who have a heart of service and are focused on positive youth development. Over the past five years, the Student Enrollment Average for this department is 70.
Landscape Architecture
Did you know… this department is home to the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Student Chapter of Planet? Their mission is to foster the will and ability to plan, design, build, and manage regenerative communities. LA students strive to connect art, culture, and the environment in order to provide society with places that people love. Students majoring in Landscape Architecture study design process, storm water design, energy flow, native landscapes and plant materials, green infrastructure, sustainability, community planning, and regional planning. The Student Enrollment Average for the past five years is 173.
